Carved Brass Shankh

The shankh, sounded at the start of every puja, recast in brass and covered end to end in carved relief: deities, lotus bands and fine scrollwork that catch the light as you turn it.

From the brass workshops of Tikamgarh, in the Bundelkhand region of Madhya Pradesh, where metal is cast, chased and polished by hand. Chosen piece by piece for Saptadhārā.

Caring for it

• Dust with a soft dry cloth.
• To bring back the shine, polish occasionally with a little brass cleaner or lemon and salt, then wipe dry.
• Keep away from damp to avoid dark spots.
